Census Applications: The Information Specialists

The CASAS Program

CASAS has five key features:

1. VIEW

View data for one area from one census. Displays standard tables from the 2006 Basic Community Profile as well as a number of customised summary tables. Many pre-defined graphs are also available.

2. COMPARE

Compare an area across all 5 census. Comparisons are made for each of the 5 census periods 2006 to 1986 via tables and graphs. The comparison is made in absolute and percentage terms for the many items that can be compared over this long period, including CPI adjusted incomes.

3. DIFFERENCE

Analyse the differences between two areas at one census. Allows you to compare the difference between areas on an individual variable or cell by cell basis.

4. REGION

Compare a number of areas for the one or more census periods. REGION generates tables of summary indicators for any number of areas from the 2006, 2001, 1996, 1991 and 1986 census. It also allows users to write formulas to produce indicators of your choice to compare across these same areas.

5. AGGREGATE

Make your own areas from smaller units. Allows the user to add together areas as required to form larger areas. This program also allows you to create combined files from vertical files for the last five census.
